The last month and a half, my chemo has been postponed several times due to low platelets. I’ve never had this problem before while on chemotherapy. In addition, the last couple of weeks my white blood cell count has been low. (Every other Monday I have chemotherapy, and every other Friday I have labs and see my oncologist.)
I saw the oncologist today except the conversation was more serious than usual. I’ve been on medication for a week to help my platelets rise, but my labs had not changed. Still dropping…today was 40. My doctor finds it odd that my white blood cell count is also so low.
The oncologist is ordering a biopsy of my bone marrow. The reasoning for this is blood cells are made in the bone marrow. The report will tell a story of what is going on in my body. At worst it could mean the cancer has gone to the bone marrow or else where in the body. Or, the cause could be that the bone marrow is “stressed” from almost four years of consistent chemotherapy, not including the treatments I’ve had in the years prior.
My Mom and I need your prayers. Thank you in advance for praying. We are trusting the Lord…not that the outcome will be what we want…but that His goodness and grace will carry us through as it has a million times before.
